Now before I go more into my question, let me just say that I have nothing against apple, I love my mac.

So if you are planning to buy and Iphone, what are you’re reasons? Im extremely curious to know cause the way I see it, theres nothing super special about it. The only differences I can come up with at the moment, when compared to my current pocket pc(XV6700) phone, which is:
-much larger storage
-visual voicemail(which isn’t a huge difference anyways)
-all-touchscreen
-OS

other than those factors, my phone has the exact same features, or can be upgraded to have the same features.

So if you are planning to get one, why? it not only does the same thing as other PDA phones, its ridiculously expensive for what it is.
-at least $500 4 phone
-another $175 if you have to change providers
-probably phone bill will be at least $90 per month(data plan required from what Ive heard)
-figure in $30-$50 for accessories
-insurance(you’d be stupid not to at $500)

I only paid $90 4 my phone.
very interesting so far:
just to add to my post:

-never said mine had more storage(in fact that was listed as a difference)
-Iphone max is 8gigs, not 20
-average movie in mp4 format is about 7 gigs depending on compression technique. A Tv show would be closer to what you described.
- i can get google maps too
-I may not be able to get youtube, true, but on a technical level I could, if a mobile phone version of flash 9 was released.
-My videos and mp3s are, actually, quite organized.
-true, there are things I would be willing to pay over $500 for, but, I don’t on account of those things usually being impractical.
-Apple, within the past few years, has started to slip on their quality control, my new laptop which I just bought(yes its over $500, but I need it for school cause I do graphic design) had to be replaced twice.
-full html web browsing is available via Opera Mobile last I looked.

I really want to get the iPhone. I have a family plan right now with just my mom with T-Mobile. I like T-Mobile, but I would absolutely love to get the iPhone. I have money for the phone.
Is there a way my mom could downgrade our plan so it would just be her? We wouldn’t be canceling the plan since she would still be sticking with T-Mobile.

Then about the iPhone. I have no problem with switching to AT&T, but I’m a little confused about their plans. I want to get the cheapest one, 59.99 a month with 450 minutes and 5000 nights and weekends.
I’m just a little confused about the Internet feature. I use a Mac and I am familiar with Safari, so you would use that for the internet. What would the cost be of that? On the plans it says ‘Unlimited Data (email/web)’ and then it’s checked off. What is the fee for that? Is it unlimited and included in the plan? If so, that would be awesome.
Also, for iPhone users. What are the cons of it? I know the many pros, but what are some negatives? Thanks!
I’ve heard AT&T has a 2 or 5 year contract with Apple that it will be exclusive to them in those 2 or 5 years. I don’t want to have to wait 2 or 5 years (I’ve heard both.) to get it.

I’m just unsure if my mom can be the only one on the plan. We aren’t canceling it, just getting a smaller one or an individual pan. Is it possible to switch from a family plan to an individual plan mid contract?

As far as I’m concerned the huge touchscreen will get greasy from being against people’s faces, fingerprinted from people’s fingers, it will get scratched from being in women’s purses/men’s pockets, and will always get otherwise messed up.

With all the features they have jammed in the battery is sure to be limited, plus they are not allowing third party downloads which is just another move for them to get a strangle hold on your media.

Apple got famous for intuitive controls on the iPod…now a whole family of “i” products later, it seems that the iPhone’s touch screen is just a gimmick. It would be intuitive to use your fingers, except for all the downsides I mentioned earlier. Other competitors such as the Nokia N800 seem just as good, if not better in many ways.

Why should someone fork out $600 for a product that seems to forget its roots? Rather than innovation and simplicity, the iPhone relies on the Apple name.

Why should anyone buy it?
Also Apple just announced that all the music on the phone will HAVE to come through iTunes…just another attempt to tighten their control on our media…and another thing wrong with the phone.
I’m not asking whether or not you guys like the phone…i’m asking why is it worthwhile? what reasons should someone shell out 600 bucks…I understand it has a browser, and other nice features but is that worth short battery time? Other phones have browsers as well.

Give me reasons please….back up your opinion. So far the only reason I can figure out so far why people like it is that it is chic and says “apple” on it.

Will the next iPod have many of the iPhone features (touch screen, cover flow, etc.), or does anyone think Apple is preparing an entirely new product?

Also, aren’t the widgets on the iPhone just the coolest thing? Yeah, right now it’s only stock & weather, but what if they come out with a new widgets package that included stuff like, I don’t know: TVguide, MovieReviews, CookingIdeas, etc.?
